PROJECT GOALS

Understanding How We Move

Connect with us

The Need for Unified Data

UC Davis has a complex transportation network, but the data is fragmented across multiple departments. We bring it all together.

UC Davis has a rich transportation network. From being the 'Bicycle Capital of America' to Unitrans' iconic double-decker buses. However, critical data like parking permits, ridership, and bus performance is scattered across campus departments. We consolidate this fragmented information into one unified resource for better planning and climate action.

A Centralized Transportation Hub

ASUCD IRL created a single platform that combines diverse transportation datasets into an accessible, interactive website.

ASUCD IRL created Aggies on the Moove to centralize transportation data into one accessible platform. We process diverse datasets into a unified database that anyone can explore through this website. Our interactive queries make it easy for non-technical users to visualize insights and analyze transportation patterns at UC Davis.

To Empower and Educate

Our goal is to make transit data transparent and accessible for students, planners, and researchers across campus.

We make transit data transparent and accessible to help students make informed decisions and give planners the insights they need to improve campus travel. This platform also serves as an educational resource for transportation, statistics, and data science. Built through a year of research and collaboration, we're excited to share it with you.

Software Team

Our talented team of developers and designers who brought this platform to life.

IRL's Aggies on the Moove software team includes Rani Saro (Technical Product Manager, Senior Software Engineer), Felicia Feng (Software Engineer), Trisha Baadkar (Software Engineer), Patrick Nguyen (Software Engineer), John Carraher (Software Engineer), and Isabel Shic (Product Designer).

About our partners

Incredible partners who provided essential data and support to make this project possible.

We thank UC Davis DOTS, Unitrans, UCD ITS, ASUCD, the City of Davis, Capitol Corridor, Xentrans, SPIN, and Yolo Transportation District for their continued support and valuable insights.

Research Team

The researchers who gathered, processed, and analyzed the transportation data for this platform.

IRL's Aggies on the Moove research team includes Jeremy Elvander (Project Manager, Associate Director), Isabella Gonzales (Researcher), Brady Horton (Researcher), Meenakshi Iyer (Researcher).

Rani Saro

Rani is the Engineer who led the development of this platform.

As a 4th Computer Science major, Rani is driven to build impactful technology. Tasked with transforming research data into a user-facing product, he took full ownership of the development lifecycle, defining the product roadmap and leading sprint planning. Rani engineered the core application, deploying a Flask backend on AWS EC2 and implementing the API layer. On the frontend, he spearheaded a significant Next.js refactor, removing over 10,000 lines of redundant code and reducing the app size by 60%. After the team graduated, Rani single-handedly continued development to successfully launch the product.

Jeremy Elvander

Jeremy is the Data Scientist who led the research and data analysis of this platform.

Jeremy is a 4th year Data Science and Geographic Information Systems major with a passion for transportation, who conceived and spearheaded the creation of Aggies on the Moove. As project manager, Jeremy forged relationships with our partners to acquire the data for our regularly updated database. Jeremy was responsible for backend database architecture and design, as well as the ETL pipelines used for data validation, processing, and engineering. Jeremy also built and programmed all 19 question options for public transportation, private transportation, and weather querying.
